Coding
I have retrieved and displayed data for the major American indices on index.php. See the progress report for Iteration IV (18 November 2002), of which all four phases are now complete. This report includes a discussion of my intended methodology, based on the work of Gregory Polins, and the manner in which I actually accomplished the objectives set for this iteration.
Iteration IV comprises the first code related to my project, serving as practice for obtaining additional data for listings (companies and corporations) in the various indices. I applied my PHP skills in this endeavor, learning mainly about matching strings to retrieve the desired data. Another part of this process was coordinating two files (index.php and fn.php) to produce proper output in the form of a table. As mentioned in the progress report for Iteration IV, all links to "Home" in this page have been changed to index.php, allowing visitors to view the latest progress immediately upon entering the site.
Journal and Progress Reports
I have described my daily progress in detail in my Quarter II Journal, accomplishing my weekly goals as scheduled. As mentioned above, I have completed Iteration IV and am ready to create additional components of the iterface. To determine my next major step, I will need to consult with Nick, as well as Mr. Latimer and Mr. Holliman.
Related Research
I will research databases because my project will entail large amounts of data that will need to be presented orderly and analyzed efficiently. See Quarter II Assignments for a list of courses pertaining to this topic.
Supercomputer Applications
I have selected two articles reporting research at the San Deigo Supercomputer Center (SDSC) at the University of CaliforniaSan Diego. See Quarter II Assignments for links to these intriguing reports.
