SuperComputer Applications



Applications: One supercomputer application that looks very interesting (but perhaps out of my reach) is creating ones own supercomputer by using java. I already have an interest in java and so this caught my attention while I was searching through supercomputing websites. The main way to do this is to use the Internet to gain access to other computers and therefore a gigantic amount of information and computers. By using applets, that don't actually show up on a user's computer, information can be processed and sent back to the main computer. Since the internet is being used, you seemingly have an untapped resource for information and this itself is a supercomputer.



Some Interesting Websites:

• Create your own supercomputer with Java
  • This site tells about how to use the intranet and how to use invisible applets to access other users computers in order to obtain information and how it is then sent back to the main computer
• The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA)
  • The website for the program that works with supercomputing applications mostly for the private sector
• Build your own Java-based Supercomputer
  • This site is similar to the first. It defines what a supercomputer is and also tells of the problems between C languages and Java. This type of supercomputer uses Pseudo Remote Threads and the site also gives sample code as to how it works
