Outline for the year
- 1st Quarter:
- Gather preliminary background materials for project; locate
references.
- Develop formal project proposal. Includes subject matter,
algorithms,
language(s) to be used
- Write programs to experiment with algorithms.
- Write preliminary abstract, background, introductory sections to
your research paper using LaTeX/HTML/PDF.
- become familiar with UNIX accounts, UNIX commands, and network access
- Investigate available software utilities including LaTeX, HTML, Java,
C, C++, etc.
- 2nd Quarter
- Continue gathering additional reference materials
for your RESEARCH
- Refine project and research ideas/plans for further investigation
- Continue computer programs supporting research project goals.
- Research paper components to be completed:
Title, Abstract, Introduction/Background,
preliminary Development sections
- Develop a poster display describing the research project
- 3rd Quarter
- Begin finalizing computer programs and models
- Include validation, testings, and results.
- Plan and gather data for charts and graphs in your research paper
- Complete a draft of your research paper. (LaTeX, HTML, and PDF):
Title, abstract, intro/background, development sections,
results, conclusions, appendices, bibliography
(at least 10 references)
- 4th Quarter
- Finalize your research paper, conclusions, bibliography resources
- Final edit of research paper
Turn in Final Research Paper with diagrams, graphics, and source code
- Properly document computer code and draw conclusions
- Archive your portfolio
- Pass on essential knowledge to next year's students of the CS Lab
